Loma Linda dental school names new dean
December 21, 2017
Loma Linda, Calif. — Loma Linda University School of Dentistry announced in December it named Dr. Robert Handysides, who has served as the school’s associate dean for academic affairs since 2013, as its new dean, effective Jan. 1.
Dr. Handysides replaces Dr. Joseph Caruso, the dental school’s acting and interim dean since May 2017.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to learn that my colleagues and peers have chosen me to lead the school of dentistry,” Dr. Handysides said. “Although the school has a proud tradition of excellence and is recognized as having one of the profession’s premier clinical programs, we have no interest in resting on our laurels.”
Dr. Handysides has helped guide and direct the decision-making and implementation of both clinical training and curriculum design at the school, according to a news release. A 1993 graduate from Loma Linda University dental school, Dr. Handysides has served his alma mater in several roles since 2001. This includes course director, lecturer, clinical educator and research at the school’s department of endodontics. He became an associate professor in 2007 and later promoted to associated professor status with the school’s department of endodontics in 2008.
