U.S. News & World Report: Dentistry, orthodontics rank among best jobs

U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of the “100 Best Jobs” placed dentists and orthodontists both in the top-five, according to results published Jan. 10 on its website.
Dentists occupied the No. 2 ranking, while orthodontists secured the No. 5 spot. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons finished No. 8, with health providers filling eight of the top 10 positions.
Software developers topped the list.
The magazine stated that it analyzes data about salary, unemployment rate and stress to select the top jobs of the year.
Regarding dentists, U.S. News & World Report stated, “The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts employment growth of 17.5 percent between 2016 and 2026, with 23,200 new openings. A comfortable salary, low unemployment rate and agreeable work-life balance boost dentist to a top position on our list of Best Jobs.” The magazine estimated the annual salary as $153,900, with a 0.4 percent unemployment rate.
