Journal issue focusing on oral premalignancy available

July 11, 2018 The June issue of the journal Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology Oral Radiology, or OOOO, which features a special section on potentially premalignant and oral epithelial lesions, is available for ADA members to read online in full.

The issue includes eight review papers and a research paper all focusing on preneoplastic oral epithelial lesions, described in the journal as "a chronic condition of the oral mucosa that too often leads to serious morbidity in patients worldwide."

The articles available include a deep dive into the clinical features and presentation of oral potentially malignant disorders; a look at risk factors of potentially premalignant oral epithelial lesions; and an article laying out limitations and future directions of noninvasive diagnostic adjuncts for the evaluation of potentially premalignant lesions.

The editor of OOOO is Dr. Mark Lingen, a dentist with a Ph.D., and an oral and maxillofacial pathologist and a professor of pathology at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Lingen was also chair of the ADA expert panel that developed a guideline published in 2017 for evaluation potentially malignant disorders in the oral cavity. To download the guideline, visit ADA.org/OralCancer.

Dr. Nikolaos Nikitakis, a dentist with a Ph.D. and M.D., is an associate professor at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece, served as a guest consulting editor for the June issue of OOOO.
