ADA 2018 to shine spotlight on antibiotics
May 07, 2018
Honolulu — Three continuing education courses at ADA 2018 – America's Dental Meeting will focus on treatment involving antibiotics.
One of the presenters is pharmacologist Mark Donaldson, Pharm.D., who is making his debut at the annual meeting by leading no fewer than four different courses.
One of them is Appropriate Analgesic and Antibiotic Prescribing (6122), scheduled for Oct. 19 from 7:30-10 a.m. In an interview with ADA News, Dr. Donaldson, senior executive director of pharmacy advisory solutions for Vizient, a health care performance improvement company, said, "If you haven't kept up with some changes, this is an update course you should take."
Dr. Donaldson said he considered antibiotic prescribing to be one of "most important topics in dentistry, medicine and the general public."
"My goal is for the implementation of information that attendees can use on Monday morning after the meeting," said Dr. Donaldson. He is concerned about some dentists who have become complacent in their prescribing practices. "There's more information today on when not to prescribe."
The other course related to antibiotics is:
- Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (8102), Oct. 21, 7:30-10 a.m., John Molinari, Ph.D.
The other courses Dr. Donaldson will be presenting are:
- What's in Tour Medical Emergency Kit and Why? (7105), Oct. 20, 7-8:30 a.m.
- Money Makes the World Go Round, But Drugs Can Make It Spin (7111), Oct. 20, 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Forget the White-Knuckle Technique: Minimal Sedation Update (8103), Oct. 21, 7:30-10 a.m.
