Help build healthy smiles during National Children's Dental Health Month
November 13, 2018
The Smile Builders are ready to get to work as National Children's Dental Health Month approaches in February.
The annual, month-long campaign invites dental and other health care professionals and educators to come together and promote the benefits of good oral health care to children and their caregivers.
For 2019, the campaign slogan is "Brush and clean in between to build a healthy smile," referring to the recommendations to brush for two minutes twice a day and clean between teeth daily with an interdental cleaner. The poster features cartoon "Smile Builders" wearing hard hats and working to clean between and brushing teeth.
The ADA each year provides dental professionals with free oral health posters and activity sheets targeting youth. Large, full-color copies of the posters, available in English on one side and Spanish on the reverse side, can be ordered in preparation for February's celebration. Free, bilingual downloads of the posters and Smile Builder activity sheets are also available. Visit ADA.org/NCDHM
for all materials.
The ADA will celebrate the 78th year for the program in 2019.
It began as a one-day event Feb. 3, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1981 the ADA House of Delegates extended it to a month-long observance. Local observances of National Children's Dental Health Month often include poster displays, coloring and essay contests, health fairs, free dental screenings, museum exhibits, classroom presentations and dental office tours.
A National Children's Dental Health Month planning guide is also available at ADA.org/NCDHM
for dental offices that want to host activities.
