Springfield scene: The Illinois State Dental Society Foundation took over the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield July 20-21 for its biennial Mission of Mercy. Over 1,100 patients were treated at the event, with about 260 dentists volunteering. Services offered included cleanings, fillings and extractions. This year’s event included a Veterans First program to reduce waits for U.S. military veterans. The first Illinois Mission of Mercy was in 2010 in Bloomington, followed by Grayslake (2012), Peoria (2014) and Collinsville (2016).
