September 25, 2018
A free Oct. 11 webinar, "ERA/EFT Implementation: How To For Your Practice," will address the benefits of, and steps to implement, electronic alternatives to paper explanation of benefits and reimbursement checks.
EFT refers to electronic funds transfer and ERA is an acronym for electronic remittance advice.
Scheduled from noon-1 p.m. CDT, the ADA webinar offers one credit through the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program.
"This continuing education series started in 2017 with the webinar that explored myths associated with electronic funds transfer, which is available online for those who were not able to participate or who would like to refresh their memories," said Dr. Mark Mihalo, one of the three webinar speakers, and chair of the Council on Dental Benefit Program's Coding and Transactions Subcommittee. "In 2018, the ADA published the free EFT Implementation Checklist – a step-by-step guide for dentists who wished to lower administrative overhead incurred with receiving and processing paper checks. There is a small but growing number of dentists who have moved from paper to electronic payment and remittance advice transactions. It is now time to promote further growth."

Besides Dr. Mihalo, the program speakers include Zack Church, principal product analyst for the Henry Schein company's software development team that produces Dentrix Ascend, a cloud-based dental practice management application; and Amy Hoelscher, inside sales and vendor partner manager at the Patterson Technology Center, which offers the Eaglesoft PMS application, and who has 18 years of experience in the dental industry. These speakers will describe the two standard electronic transactions and how they are, or could be, processed.
In addition, Dr. Mihalo will describe the ways by which he moved his paper-reliant processes to ones that integrate EFTs and ERAs into daily reimbursement processing.
