ADA to host emergency department referral programs webinar April 23
April 12, 2019
Emergency department referral programs best utilize resources between hospitals and dental clinics to connect patients to care, and an April 23 webinar will bring more exposure to these programs and show how the public can benefit from this type of medical-dental collaboration.
The free webinar, Emergency Department Referral: Successful Models in Action, scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. Central time, offers one hour of continuing education credit. The ADA Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention is presenting the webinar.
Patients without a dental home may find themselves in emergency department rooms while seeking dental services. Emergency department referral programs aim to connect those patients to dental care by acting as a bridge from emergency rooms to dental homes.
Drs. Rick Stevenson, member of the Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention, and Jane Grover, council director, will host the webinar, which will showcase successful emergency department referral models with four presenters with experience in emergency department referral programs.
The presenters are:
- Dr. Tod Twitchell, dental director of the Ryan Family Dental Center, part of UPMC Cole, a non-profit health care provider in north central Pennsylvania and south central New York.
- Lori Gross, regional health care director with UPMC Cole, with 30 years of health care experience with input and outpatient services in addition to home health billing.
- Barbara Colley, a registered dental assistant and executive director of the VINA Community Dental Center in Brighton, Michigan. VINA stands for Vision, Integrity, Need, Action.
- Dr. Ronald Paler, vice president of the VINA Community Dental Center and adjunct professor at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
