Webinar to address, solicit comments on Surgeon General Report on Oral Health

January 03, 2019 A no cost webinar Jan. 10 will update participants on the status of a forthcoming U.S. Surgeon General Report on Oral Health and seek comments from the public to help develop the report.

The webinar, scheduled for 11 a.m. Central time, requires no registration and will be available on the National Institutes of Health website. It will be recorded and archived for viewers who can't watch it live.

The report, commissioned by the U.S. Public Health Service's Oral Health Coordinating Committee, will come nearly two decades after a similar one was released. It aims to underscore the importance of poor oral health as a public health issue, provide a comprehensive review of the importance of oral health throughout life, describe important issues affecting oral health, outline a vision for future directions and educate and encourage Americans to take action, according to a notice from July announcing the report.

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research will host the Jan. 10 webinar, which will feature the U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, M.D., and Dr. Tim Ricks, chief dental officer of the U.S. Public Health Service, among others.

Interested people and organizations can submit comments on oral health related to its importance as a pubic health issue, contemporary issues affecting oral health, knowledge that may transform the nation's oral health and future directions.

Comments should be received by Jan. 25. Send an email to or mail comments to Ms. Michelle Pitt, NIH/NIDCR 31 Center Drive, Room 5B55, Bethesda, MD, 20892.

For more information about the webinar or submitting comments, visit the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research's website.
