CMS posts 2018 Open Payments data
July 12, 2019
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in June published Open Payments Program Year 2018 data
, along with newly submitted and updated payment records for previous program years.
Applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations collectively reported $9.35 billion publishable payments and ownership and investment interests to physicians and teaching hospitals between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2018.
CMS describes Open Payments as a national disclosure program that promotes a more transparent and accountable health care system by making the financial relationships between applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations and health care providers available to the public. These payments include things like speaking fees, research, travel, gifts, meals and ownership interests in drug and device companies.
