This honor was given to Dr. Takei for his work developing the field of periodontics in Japan and promoting academic exchange between Japan and the United States.

Dr. Takei, a graduate of Marquette University School of Dentistry, joined the faculty at UCLA in 1967. He helped create the UCLA School of Dentistry’s cultural student exchange program in 1993. The program sends 10 dental students to two universities in Japan and has Japanese students visit UCLA. Dr. Takei is also a visiting professor at Meikai University in Japan.
