Community Water Fluoridation Celebration

The ADA is collaborating with the American Public Health Association’s Oral Health Section in presenting a free webinar commemorating the anniversary for what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th century.

A Toast to Community Water Fluoridation – Celebrating 75 Years! will stream Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Central time.

For the last 75 years, the ADA has considered community water fluoridation to be a significant public health success that continues to benefit all segments of the nation’s communities.

This webinar will serve as an opportunity to highlight the perseverance of public health partners across the country, continuing to rally communities across the nation to prioritize health equity and prevention efforts, such as community water fluoridation, for another 75 years and beyond.

“This 75th anniversary of community water fluoridation goes beyond commemorating a timespan,” said Josefine Wolfe, Ph.D., chair of the American Public Health Association’s Oral Health Section. “This celebration is a salute to the significant advancements in knowledge and obstacles which have been overcome during those 75 years.”

The featured speakers include:
• Rear Admiral Dr. Timothy Ricks, chief dental officer of the U.S. Public Health Service and assistant surgeon general.
• Georges C. Benjamin, M.D., executive director of the American Public Health Association.
• Dr. Myron Allukian Jr., past president of the American Public Health Association.
• Nicole Johnson, associate director of the CDC’s division of oral health.
• Dr. Jayanth Kumar, California state dental director and member of the ADA’s National Fluoridation Advisory Committee.
•  Tooka Zokaie, ADA manager of fluoridation and preventive health activities.

The DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement is sponsoring the event.
