Letters: Opioids

March 04, 2019

I find it amusing the time and money that is spent on dentistry and the opioid crisis. I am at the epicenter of the crisis in West Virginia. I am a past member of the West Virginia Dental Board, which includes two presidencies and 20 years experience and a past president of the American Association of Dental Boards. I have seen the beginning and the ongoing evolution of this process. In short, there is no need for narcotics in dentistry. In my opinion, more than 95 percent of acute pain in our profession can be resolved with proper treatment and management of the situation with anti-inflammatories.
