'Show-Me' state donates $1 million in MOM care
Springfield, Mo.—Nearly 1,900 adults and children. One million dollars.
More than 1,100 volunteers, including nearly 200 dentists. Fillings and extractions numbered 1,447 and 2,922, respectively.
The numbers say it all: the Missouri Dental Association and MDA Foundation’s inaugural Missouri Mission of Mercy charity dental clinic was a success. The event was held Sept. 23-24 for low-income adults and children, some who lined up the day before to ensure they received care.
“So many local, state and national businesses and volunteers came together to make the first MOMOM a great success,” said Dr. Sarah Mahaffey, MOMOM co-chair. “The show of support was so inspiring; we even had volunteers from other cities and states like Kansas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Georgia, and even Las Vegas.”
Delta Dental, DentaQuest, Doubletree Hotel, Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club, McDonalds and Subway were platinum sponsors of the event.
“We couldn’t be happier with how things turned out—we hope to host similar events around the state in years to come,” said Dr. Darren Mahaffey, MOMOM co-chair. “This program is an example of what can happen when people band together. We are so pleased we could provide that gift of care to those who need it.”
