Free ADA webinar offers education on how to receive electronic funds transfer payments

Dentists who have had a dental plan payment check lost in the mail could consider a way to receive safe and secure payment through electronic funds transfer payments.

The ADA will present a free hour-long webinar Jan. 30 from noon-1 p.m. Central time called ACHing for EFT. Attendees will hear from an industry representative as well as a member dentist on how easy it can be for dentists and their staff to implement electronic funds transfers.

One hour of continuing education credit is offered.

“This webinar is the latest in a series of educational programs for dentists and their practice staff whose focus is on reducing practice overhead costs through use of electronic data interchange,” said Dr. Randall C. Markarian, chair of the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs. “Timely and accurate payment for services provided affects the financial health of every dental practice. EFT via automated clearinghouses is how practices will be able to reduce manual time and effort — and costs — associated with the receipt and processing of paper checks.”

The 2018 Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare Index reports that only 12% of dental claims were paid via electronic funds transfers, while 63% of claim payments to physicians were via electronic funds transfers.

Presenters include Dr. Sara Stuefen, the 10th District representative for the ADA New Dentist Committee, member of the ADA’s Council on Dental Benefit Programs and a practicing dentist in Vinton, Iowa; and Brad Smith, National Automated Clearing House Association senior director of industry verticals. Mr. Smith’s goal is to increase the use of automated clearinghouses in industries including health care.
