ADA Board authorizes two national searches for editors of JADA, JADA Open

The ADA Board of Trustees has authorized the searches for the next editor of The Journal of the American Dental Association and the founding editor of JADA Open, a new peer-reviewed, open-access journal spanning basic and clinical sciences to advance research in oral health.

The Board has appointed search committees to find the new editors. Information about both positions is available through ADA.org.

For the editor of JADA, the ADA is seeking an "outstanding clinician scientist" with minimally a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree, knowledge of scholarly publishing and experience in clinical practice, research and education. The ideal candidate will bring fresh ideas, rigor and new authors into JADA and have a vision to develop the journal as a platform to equip clinicians for future challenges through evidence-based, clinically focused publications. In addition to publishing the best work in clinical and evidence-based dentistry, the editor also will be committed to attracting and mentoring early-stage scientists and researchers, authors and reviewers and invite them to participate with the journal.

The founding editor of JADA Open will have the opportunity to head up this new initiative aimed at bridging basic, applied and clinical sciences in an open-access format. The interdisciplinary journal will provide a forum for researchers in basic and applied sciences, such as biology, chemistry, engineering and computer science, to make their work visible to experts in clinical dentistry and medicine, as well as investigators in epidemiology and public health, with the notion of applying new and emerging scientific ideas, tools and techniques to challenges in oral health.

The editor of JADA Open should have a Ph.D. and advanced training and experience in scientific or clinical research, including extensive experience in oral health research. An advanced clinical degree, such as D.D.S., D.M.D. or M.D., also is desirable.

Interested candidates for either position should submit their curriculum vitae and a two-page vision statement at ADA.org.
