Two March 27 webinars focus on surviving financial storm caused by pandemic

The ADA is presenting two free webinars March 27, aiming to help dentists financially weather the economic downturn during the COVID-19 outbreak and illustrate how ADA advocacy has helped turn the tide.

• Dental Practice Financial Issue Surrounding COVID-19 will stream at 2 p.m. Central time.

• What’s in the CARES Act and How it Can Immediately Impact my Dental Practice will stream at 4 p.m. Central time.

Mr. Schiff

Both webinars feature certified public accountant Allen Schiff, the managing member of Schiff & Associates, who has over 35 years of experience in the area of dental practice management. He is president of the Academy of Dental CPAs.

The first webinar, on dentists’ financial issues, features Mr. Schiff, who will first emphasize that dentists are all in this together and that it is critical to communicate with their dental teams and colleagues. He will also give a checklist of what to do financially that will help keep the doors open once the pandemic has receded.

The second webinar, about the CARES Act, will also feature Mike Graham, the ADA’s senior vice president of government and public affairs. Mr. Graham has fought on Capitol Hill for issues important to organized dentistry for 25 years, serving in various positions in the ADA’s Washington, D.C., office.

In the CARES Act webinar, Mr. Graham will walk participants through the provisions in the act that could have the most impact on dentists and their practices. Mr. Schiff will then explain how a provision in the act allows those who apply for small business loans to access grant money on a first-come, first-served basis, along with other business tips on how to carry on through the storm. There will be time at the end of the session to address questions submitted through the chat feature on Zoom.

Following several days of discussions, legislators reached a deal Wednesday on a $2 trillion stimulus package aimed at helping the people, states and businesses devastated by the coronavirus pandemic. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act — or CARES Act — passed the Senate Wednesday, with a vote from the House scheduled for March 27. This legislation contains many provisions that the ADA has advocated for on behalf of dentistry.

Attendees who stay logged in for at least 45 minutes in each of the webinars are eligible to receive continuing education credit. Due to system restraints, these webinars are limited to 3,000 simultaneous attendees. The webinar will be recorded and available to view after the live stream.
