The ADA Health Policy Institute held a webinar April 29 with leading experts from across the dental industry to discuss how COVID-19 has affected the dental economy and what they think the future will bring. The full webinar is currently available on the ADA Youtube channel.
The hour-long webinar featured the following panelists: Marko Vujicic, HPI chief economist and vice president; Steve Beuchaw, Wolfe Research director; Joanne Fontana, Milliman Consulting Actuary; Ty Hamilton, P&R Dental Strategies COO; and Steve Thorne, Pacific Dental Services CEO. Each panelist shared their unique data and research, as well as key insights on what the coming months will bring.
Part of the webinar addressed the latest results from an on-going HPI poll on the economic impact of COVID-19 on dental practices. The latest data found 74% of dentists applied for an SBA 7(a) PPP loan, but of those, only 50% have had their application approved. 34% were still waiting on a decision and 15% were not approved. The poll, taken by 6,614 dentists in private practices the week of April 20, also shows that one in four dentists are conducting remote problem-focused evaluations through video conferencing.
The webinar also reviewed HPI’s just-released research brief, “Modeling the Impact of COVID-19 on U.S. Dental Spending.”
