COVID-19 mock trial helps dentists understand how to protect themselves

For providers who have questions regarding legal issues during COVID-19, the ADA is offering a mock trial to help them better understand what they need to do to protect themselves, their team members and their practice.

Simulated Malpractice Mock Trial: COVID-19 Lawsuit is scheduled for Oct. 16 from 10 a.m.-noon CDT. There will also be an hourlong live Q&A chat with presenters from 2-3 p.m. CDT Oct. 16. Upon completion of the course, attendees will receive two hours of continuing education credit.

The course will cover the legal issues particular to dentists during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also address what protocols must be followed and how standards of care will be determined, and the liabilities that dental professionals face while practicing during the pandemic and how to protect their practice.

• Dr. Mitchell J. Gardiner, senior partner and assistant professor of restorative dentistry at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, and a private practice dentist.
• Ryan Donihue, J.D., shareholder and medical and dental malpractice defense attorney at Hall Booth Smith, P.C., in Atlanta.
