Nominations sought for Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition public member

The Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition, or CCEPR, is seeking nominations for a public member to serve on the commission. Nominations are due Feb. 1.

In order to serve, public members should not have any formal or informal connection to the profession of dentistry but have an interest in, or knowledge of, health-related or accreditation issues.

According to CCEPR, public members must not be:
• A dentist or member of an allied dental discipline.
• An Instructor in a dental or allied dental education institution.
• An employee, member of the governing board, owner, or shareholder of, or independent consultant to a continuing dental education provider or a company that produces dental products or services.
• Member or employee of any professional trade association, licensing/regulatory agency or membership organization related to, affiliated with or associated with the commission, dental education or dentistry.

In addition, a public member cannot be a spouse, parent, child or sibling of any of those mentioned above.

The CCEPR serves the public, the dental profession and other health care providers by developing and implementing standards that promote excellence in continuing dental education to support professional competence and continuous improvement of patient care.

The commission establishes standards and criteria for the recognition of continuing dental education providers; approves providers of continuing dental education that meet those standards through a voluntary, self-regulated, peer-review process; and promotes quality improvement in continuing dental education. The public member adds the public/consumer perspective to the commission’s work.

Potential candidates may be nominated by an organization or may nominate themselves.
