Washington — President Donald J. Trump signed a bill Sept. 30 to extend current funding and keep the government running through Dec. 11.
The spending package also includes funding extensions for some of the Association’s advocacy issues affecting oral and overall health.
These provisions impact dentistry:
• Extends funding availability for National Institutes of Health multi-year research grants that were interrupted in 2020 by COVID-19.
• Extends funding for Community Health Centers, National Health Service Corps and the Teaching Health Centers Graduate Medical Education Program through Dec. 11.
• Extends leave amounts for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps so that members may accrue up to 120 days leave through Sept. 30, 2023. This aligns USPHS accrued leave policies with all other branches of the uniformed and federal services
• Allows states to extend administrative flexibilities for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program through Sept. 30, 2021.
