Health equity webinar set for May 4

The ADA is presenting a free webinar in May that discusses health equity from different perspectives including those of a dental student and dental educator as well as experts sharing how equity is defined at the federal and state level.

The Age of Health Equity: Four Voices, One Goal for Community Benefit will stream on May 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. Central time. There will be 1.5 credits of continuing education pending approval to all attendees who complete the webinar.

The webinar’s objectives include helping attendees understand the principles of health equity and how they can help reduce oral health disparities. It will also explain how helping underserved families can strengthen the profession and show how today’s educators can incorporate health equity into dental school experiences.

Webinar speakers include:

  • Rear Admiral Tim Ricks, D.M.D. Admiral Ricks currently serves as the chief dental officer of the U.S. Public Health Service as well as assistant surgeon general.
  • Samuel Zwetchkenbaum, D.D.S. Dr. Zwetchkenbaum serves as dental director in the Oral Health Program at the Rhode Island Department of Health and in the RI Medicaid Program.
  • Allie Koth. Ms. Koth is a fourth-year dental student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska, who will be starting a two-year pediatric dental residency at the UNMC College of Dentistry at Children’s Hospital in Omaha later this year.
  • Rosa Chaviano Moran, D.M.D. Dr. Moran is associate dean for admissions at the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and president of the Hispanic Dental Association. She is also a member of the ADEA Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee.
