ADA seeks applicants for Stanford Award by Dec. 15

Standards graphicApplications are due Dec. 15 for the 2020 John W. Stanford New Investigator Award, which encourages dentists and dental students to conduct standards-based research and standards development.

Dental students, dentists who earned their dental degree since 2015 and dentists pursuing an additional degree or specialty may apply for the award. Submissions must be an original research paper or poster that addresses some aspect of the use of standards in dental research or clinical application.

The winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium, airfare and accommodations to present his or her winning research at the July 2021 American Dental Association Standards Committee on Dental Products annual meeting in Boston.

Dr. Stanford, who died in 2011, was a 40-year ADA employee and played a pivotal part in standards setting and development. He is credited with establishing the ADA’s current standards program.

The 2019 Stanford Award winner was Emily Wible, D.M.D., for her research into the effects of different cleaning methods on clear thermoplastic retainers.
