Frequently asked questions

Why is this course being offered?

A clinical practice guideline on the management of acute dental pain is being written by an expert panel and a team of methodologists at the ADA Science and Research Institute, University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Pennsylvania. As part of the guideline's dissemination, an online CE course is being released to help teach the guideline's clinical recommendations.

This project is supported by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $1.5 million with 100 percent funded by FDA/HHS. The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by FDA/HHS, or the U.S. Government.

Why is this course offered in only five states?

Limiting the number of participating states will make it possible to measure how statewide prescribing habits have changed since the release of the online course. When this assessment of course impact has been completed, the course will then be made available to all dental providers, regardless of geographic location.

How many CE credits is the course worth?

The online CE course is worth 1 continuing education (CE) credit, as designated by the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program.

Who can I contact if I have questions?
