North Carolina Dentist Installed as American Dental Association Trustee

CHICAGO, October 19, 2020 — Gary D. Oyster, D.D.S., a dentist practicing in Raleigh, North Carolina, was recently appointed as a trustee of the American Dental Association (ADA) at the ADA FDC Virtual Connect Conference 2020, a joint meeting of the ADA and Florida Dental Association.

Dr. Oyster will serve on the ADA Board of Trustees as the trustee for the 16th District, which represents North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The ADA Board of Trustees formulates and reviews policies and programs and makes recommendations to the members of the ADA’s governing body, the House of Delegates. As a member of the ADA Board of Trustees, Dr. Oyster will play a crucial role in supporting the ADA’s vision to achieve optimal health for all.

Dr. Oyster is an active member of many dental professional organizations, most notably the ADA, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society (NCDS) and the North Carolina Dental Political Action Committee. Throughout his dental career, Dr. Oyster has held various leadership positions. A few of his prominent roles include ADA alternate delegate from 2000-2009 and delegate from 2010 to present, ADA Political Action Committee board member from 2008 to 2011, ADA Council on Governmental Affairs from 2003 to 2007, captain of the Fourth District of the ADA Political Action Committee, vice president of NCDS in 2000, current chair of the NCDS Council on Governmental Affairs and chair of the NCDS Legislative Committee.

Dr. Oyster graduated from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1972 and has been practicing dentistry ever since. In his limited spare time, he enjoys volunteering with various organizations, including the ADA’s National Children’s Dental Health Month, cancer screening clinics, the Special Olympics and serving as treasurer of Wake Smiles Clinic.
