ADA Forsyth Certified Seal

The ADA Forsyth Professional Dental Products Certification Program (ADA Forsyth Certified™) is a mark earned by select professional-grade products, materials and equipment. The program validates the safety and efficacy of professional products with well-established scientific or clinical testing protocols according to ADA-approved guidelines.

This program provides evidence-based testing data to help dental offices and clinicians make informed product decisions and serve their patients.

The program will open to applications in early 2026.

Submissions will be accepted starting in early 2026. Applications will be accepted via the program website. The website will give details about the application process and requirements.
Who can apply for ADA Forsyth Certified approval?

Manufacturers of professional-grade products, materials and equipment for dental care delivery, patient interaction, and health status monitoring.

The ADA Forsyth Certified program is NOT for over-the-counter consumer products. Those are eligible to apply for the ADA Seal of Acceptance.

What are the initial certification categories?

The following product categories are planned for the initial launch of the ADA Forsyth Certified program, with additional categories to be introduced over time.

  • Bone Graft Products for Periodontal and Peri-implant, and Alveolar Bone Defects
  • High-speed Dental Handpieces
  • Dental Machinable Ceramic Blanks
  • Prescription Strength Fluoride Dentifrices
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Infection Control in Dental Service
  • Products Designed to Improve the Quality of Dental Unit Water by Limiting Microbial Contaminants
What are the requirements for approval by ADA Forsyth Certified?

Products accepted for the ADA Forsyth Certified program must provide evidence that the following requirements are met, among others:

  • Products are for professional use only (not OTC)
  • The manufacturer and independent testing sites comply with the quality system regulation (QSR)
  • As applicable, products are either FDA-registered or FDA-cleared under a 510(k) notification
  • Company can provide efficacy and safety data that meet each category requirement
  • Labeling, packaging, and promotional materials conform with the applicable standards and regulatory requirements
  • If company is based outside the US, they have an office or branch located in the US; the product is available for purchase in the US and, when applicable, it is FDA approved
How long does it take to get a product through the certification process?
Once all the required supporting documentation, product samples, and payment are received, the process is expected to take approximately 6 to 10 weeks in most cases, unless clinical testing is required.
How will I know if a product is ADA Forsyth Certified?
Professional-grade products approved by ADA Forsyth Certified will be labeled with the ADA Forsyth Certified mark (see top of this page).
