Featured questions

What is the ADA Seal of Acceptance?

The ADA Seal of Acceptance is a trusted symbol that identifies oral care products that have been independently evaluated by the American Dental Association for safety and effectiveness. Products with the Seal have demonstrated they meet rigorous scientific requirements for their specific claims.

How do I know if a product has earned the ADA Seal?

Look for the ADA Seal logo on the product packaging, along with a statement describing the specific benefit(s) that were evaluated, such as helping prevent cavities or reducing tooth sensitivity.

Does the ADA Seal mean a product is better than every other product?

The ADA Seal means the product has met the ADA's rigorous standards for safety and effectiveness for its intended use. Many products may be effective, but only products that choose to apply and successfully complete the ADA's scientific review process may display the ADA Seal.

Which oral care products can earn the ADA Seal?

Many types of over-the-counter oral care products are eligible, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouth rinses, floss and interdental cleaners, sugar-free chewing gum, denture care products, and other oral health products that meet established ADA category requirements.

In addition, cosmetic agents may also be eligible for the Seal.

How can I find ADA Seal-accepted products?

Go to ADA.org/seal and use the ADA Seal Product Search page to browse accepted products by category, brand, or manufacturer.

You can also look for the ADA Seal logo on the package when shopping in person. When shopping online, include the keywords “ADA Seal” or “ADA approved” in your product search. Then double-check that the product appears in the Product Search at ADA.org/seal.

How often are ADA Seal products reviewed?

The ADA Seal is awarded for five years. Manufacturers must maintain product quality and notify the ADA of any product changes, which may require additional scientific review before the product continues to display the Seal.
