Letters: Unique content
October 15, 2012
If my understanding is accurate, the Board has decided to reduce the scope of the ADA Library. I am writing to offer my perspective as an orthodontist who returned to school in the 1990s to earn a master’s of library science degree.
Even though it is stated that only 1 percent of us utilize this facility, that is not particularly relevant. I would expect that the ADA Library may well be the only (or almost only) holder of certain content on the planet with regard to our field. Hopefully this is clearly understood by those individuals who have decided to downgrade the facility.
Unique content is extremely important in special libraries, even when only a few people use it. If certain individuals need to be further educated, I would be glad to provide an opinion as a degreed librarian.
