ADA Practice Transitions
ADA Practice Transitions is a new service offered through ADA Business Innovations Group to foster relationships between dentists at key points in their careers. The purpose is to match dentists who are looking to join a practice with owners who are seeking a partner, associate or someone to purchase their practice. Included in the initiative is an online platform with tips, tools and training relevant to each dentist’s situation. In addition, an advisor is assigned to the partnership to help facilitate the process and foster a positive relationship for both parties beyond the transaction.
What are dentists saying about ADA Practice Transitions?
The online platform is expected to launch in Maine and Wisconsin in Q1 2019.
- All elements of the program will be carefully evaluated with recommendations for expansion by the end of 2019. Piloting the service in these two markets allows ADA Practice Transitions to test elements of the service appropriately and understand what is needed for the next steps to scale the service on a national level.
ADA Practice Transitions FAQ
Why is the ADA conducting this pilot?
Field research identified a need in the marketplace for dentists and practice owners to connect for employment opportunities and to facilitate the transition of a practice from one owner to another. The ADA recognizes that there is a need for a more predictable and reliable process than what currently exists in the marketplace today.
At its core, ADA Practice Transitions is working to support independent dentistry and increase access to care in the United States. Testing during the pilot phase will ensure the service is able to successfully launch on a national scale. In-depth research is being conducted throughout the creation and implementation of the service. The pilot will ensure that learning from research correlate with the actions dentists take in regards to these important transitions.
What are the elements of the pilot?
Maine and Wisconsin are the two states selected to test the service throughout 2019. Read ADA News
for more on the pilot states.
The approved pilot has two main elements:
- An online platform that facilitates connections between dentists and practice owners to aid important transitions (like finding associates or buying/selling a practice), and,
- Purchasing up to two dental practices in order to place dentists in these practices with the express intention of selling the practice to those dentists after a target period of time.
When will this be available to other states?
The goal is to launch the platform and associated programs in the first quarter of 2019 in the pilot states of Maine and Wisconsin. The ADA Practice Transitions team will work closely with Maine and Wisconsin Dental Associations to carefully evaluate all elements of the program throughout the year. Recommendations for expansion to other states will be made by the end of 2019.
